NIK LARCOMBE

Company & Creative Director,  Session Lead

Nik is an arts all-rounder.

From the age of 7 until adulthood, Nik competed in Eisteddfod festivals, winning first place awards for verse-speaking and singing, and many distinction grades during years of speech and drama LAMDA training with Sally Arnold.

At 17, Nik became the youngest person to write and direct theatre at a local grass-roots company, having also  been selected previously as one of local radio’s ‘Young Voices’ when he spent time broadcasting with BBC Radio Northampton and KCBC.

Nik trained in Drama and Media at UCN. During this time, Nik took leading roles in  Albee’s ‘Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?’, ‘Passing By’ by Martin Sherman and ‘Fen’ by Caryl Churchill.

Before qualifying as a teacher in 1996, Nik co-founded Elipsis Theatre which developed original community theatre and street performance.

As a qualified teacher and SLT team member, Nik has worked in every Key Stage, including EYFS. During this time, he saw the impact and importance of the arts in young lives. Nik oversaw the productions of many school performances and also led different school choirs.

Nik has led community performing arts groups with success, bringing arts opportunities to very young children through to adult groups. Nik has written and produced locally performed drama, most recently ‘Three Short Plays’ for Milton Keynes Fringe in which he also acted. Most recently Nik portrayed the role of Editor Webb in The Play’s The Thing’s production of ‘Our Town’ directed by Rosemary Hill.

Nik is a published author of children’s books and also has created two volumes of poetry. Short stories from his anthology ‘The Cloudwrangler’s Phrasebook’ have been recorded for radio. He is a keen glass fusing artist despite being somewhat rubbish at it.

Kathy is key to Phoenix's success and is often feverishly exchanging messages with families, venues, and possibly everyone else in the Universe. Phoenix would fizzle without her. As company manager, Kathy's work is essential in keeping everything non-arty running smoothly.

Kathy has also launched our very own agency - Phoenix Agency - to secure our young people opportunities in the arts industry.
