ABOUT PHOENIX ARTS

Welcome

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to Phoenix Arts. Please bear with us as we spread wings of our own; in its current form, Phoenix Arts is relatively new, so there might be a few wobbles as we find our feet.

Throughout my (ongoing) education I've been lucky in many ways. I've been inspired by great and experienced teachers. I've also been blessed with wonderful opportunities to challenge my abilities and learn through rich experience.

This is exactly what we aim to provide for the young people and adults who are kind enough to bring us their talents.

With all of the exciting plans we're preparing, the talented staff and assistants and a shared love of performing, I can't wait to see what Phoenix Arts will create in coming months.

In the meantime, thanks for your interest. See you soon!

Sincerely,

Nik Larcombe    Drama & Media BA Hons., PGCE
Company Manager

The Staff

Frank Scarito - Co-Manager

An asset to Phoenix, the absurdly talented Mr. Scarito has enjoyed enormous success as composer, vocal mentor, film-maker and Cordon Bleu Bratwurst Chef.*  His acclaimed original musical 'Reach Out' is an exciting addition to our repertoire. Frank is key in helping Phoenix to evolve and develop.

*One of the above is false.

Lucy - Leader, First Stage Coach

Lucy has worked with children for many years and is a qualified teaching assitant. She also has her own dramatic flair, having wowed critics during Kafka's The Trial. She also makes amazing hobby-horses out of socks. Really.

Tim (BA, MA) - Accredited Courses

When Tim is not cultivating exceptionally dramatic hair, which lends authority to his status as genius, Tim is a qualified lecturer specialising in Theatre. He is an outstanding and innovative director, staging pieces from Shakespeare to his own written works. This makes him invaluable to the coming accredited and adult courses. And he looks like Billy Connolly, so that's even better.

Kathy Larcombe - Assistant Manager

Kathy is key to Phoenix's success and is often feverishly exchanging messages with families, venues, and possibly everyone else in the Universe. Phoenix would fizzle without her.

Barrie Hawes - Technical Supervisor

It is a privilege to have the support and advice of Barrie Hawes, RTS Award Winner and three-times BAFTA nominated sound supervisor formerly for the BBC. Although not required to co-ordinate events as large-scale as The Royal Variety Performance, Eurovision or Lady Diana's Funeral as he once did, Barrie's expertise is highly valued! Others might claim to have industry experience - but this does not compare to the decades of experience & expertise Barrie brings to Phoenix!

Nicole (Level 3 Childcare) - Phoenix Funtots

With previous years' experience as the deputy manager of a nursery, Nicole was the ideal professional to run our Funtots sessions. As many of her colleagues would agree, Nicole's ability to engage with children of all ages is outstanding, and her captivating sense of the dramatic truly brings sessions to life. Requires regular  tea (not included).

Cas Maddox  (ETM, EMD) - Dance

Cas is an asset to Phoenix with her years of experience and her fantastic teaching ability in many styles.

She seems to have the energy of a small nuclear reactor, also teaching adult classes during the week.

Jacky Whiles - Pupil Care

Jacky is an invaluable member of the team and takes good care of the pupils we welcome to sessions on Saturday. She is a human whirlwind and much cherished by all (and secretly a fabulous actor!)

Rob  Urquhart - Stage Management

From the building of set and props (using self-supplied materials) and helping us to manage the performance areas, Rob is an essential member of the team!

Danni Lauderdale - Vocal Coach

Formerly a driving force behind the successful local band Union, Danni has immense musical talent as singer and instrumentalist, and is able to teach young people harmony with incredible results.

Our Philosophy

Phoenix Arts MK is an equal opportunities company. We welcome all young people, valuing their difference and diversity.  We enjoy giving everyone's talent the chance to be seen or heard. We encourage all to behave respectfully and with tolerance, promoting physical and personal health. We believe that the performing arts is our common ground. We raise funds for one local and one international charity, not so that we can advertise our work for them, but so that we can truly make a difference in small and sincere ways.
