NEWS & EVENTS

Dear Parents,

Important Information for the Remaining Term

In just over a week, Phoenix Arts has the privilege and honour of sharing a stage with Destiny Africa—the internationally acclaimed choir from Kampala Childrens’ Centre; this is extra special for us as the KCC is also our international charity.

This Saturday (25th June) , pupils in the senior classes (1.30—4.30pm) will finalise singing and dancing to perform at one of Destiny Africa’s special UK shows. So Phoenix Arts sessions run as normal this week.

The following Saturday (2nd July) there will be no senior class at Foundation House.

Instead, we will meet at The Ridgeway Centre on Featherstone Road in Wolverton Mill at 2pm. We will spend time in workshops with the choir and their director practising pieces for the evening performance. We will stay at the centre until this show is finished.

We will have dinner with the choir at some time during the afternoon. There is a small charge for this—but we propose that each pupil pays their usual fee for Phoenix Sessions (usually £8). This will not only pay for dinner but also make a donation to the charity we are supporting.

At 6pm, Destiny Africa’s tour performance begins at the Ridgeway Centre—with special guests: the children from Phoenix Arts! Tickets cost £6 for adults or £4 for concession tickets. Not only is this an excellent way to see your child perform, the music and dance of Destiny Africa is an unforgettable experience in itself.

This is once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Please let us know on Saturday 25th (tomorrow) if you wish for your child to take part. We MUST have confirmation by email, text or in person by the end of Phoenix Arts tomorrow. Thanks!

Following Destiny Africa we have other festivals/summer event to attend.

For this reason, there will be no full end-of-term show—with Destiny Africa and the summer events, we have little time to put a show together! There will, however, be a show in the Autumn Term.

We are looking to attend the following events with Phoenix pupils. More information will be available as it is relayed to me.

9th July—Normal Phoenix Arts session… possibility of a very special visitor!

16th July— Phoenix Arts Breaks Up for Summer Holiday

Junior/Senior performers attend ‘Party In The Park’ - Two Mile Ash

Details to follow. Whole group, girl bands and soloists needed.

14th August—Fenny Poppers Festival. Solo/group performers for MKFM Stage needed

Thanks... See you soon with some exciting news about Phoenix Arts for September!

LAST RIGHTS - Phoenix Arts Adult Drama

Performed 29th & 30th October 2015

'Last Rights' - an emotive but darkly humorous piece devised by Phoenix Arts Adult Drama - a community group.

Jack is dead, but his legacy lives on in the family, friends and associates who are attending his open-coffin vigil.

As folks come forward to pay their last respects, however, we gain a disturbing insight into the effects which violence and bullying has on adult lives. Jack is dead - but after a lifetime of wrongs, can anyone - at last - make things right?

To book tickets please contact Nik via Facebook, call or text 07525026392 or email phoenixartsmk@aol.com

Reach Out!

The Anti-Bullying Rock Musical

Reach Out! was performed on Saturday 26th September 2015 at The Venue theatre in Milton Keynes. It was a successful show, a wonderful experience and a great memory. Have a look at our slides below:

What is 'Reach Out' ?

This is our ORIGINAL MUSICAL written and scripted by Frank Scarito, a leading light at Phoenix Arts.

At last, a contemporary Rock Musical that our current young people can relate to!

Reach Out centres around Jane, a music mega-star, appearing on a Jonathon Ross-styled chatshow, when she finally recounts the cruelty she endured as a child. It is a story about being bullied, judged and betrayed.

Mocked for being different & ridiculed for her desire to sing, she finds a champion in one of her teachers who, unlike the others, believes in her.

Now, years later and with huge success to her name, she comes face to face with her tormentors & a secret hidden for years is revealed and shocks her to the core. A must see outcome.

This is an original Musical written in MK with 12 original songs and the message to never let go of your dreams... if you do, your tormentors are the winners.

'Reach Out' was performed on Saturday 26th September 2015 at The Venue theatre in Milton Keynes. The performance was supported by Bailey McConnell who performed a half-hour set. The Mayor of Milton Keynes spoke about the importance of work like 'Reach Out' in the cobtinuing battle to end bullying.

A CD EP was released featuring some of the songs from the performance.
